Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar told reporters at a United Nations General Assembly briefing that the Strategic Political Defence Committee created under the Makkah Accord will meet in Riyadh in the near future.
Dar said officials from Pakistan, Turkey and Saudi Arabia have agreed in principle to hold the meeting. The committee will comprise three representatives from each country – the foreign ministers, defence ministers and army chiefs.
He noted that the three army chiefs met in Riyadh on 25 September and the foreign ministers met in New York on 24 September amid a surge in Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia. Dar added that the upcoming session will examine the current situation on the ground, with particular focus on Saudi Arabia.
During the same briefing, Dar announced that UN Secretary‑General Antonio Guterres has accepted an invitation to visit Pakistan before his term ends on 31 December, following an invitation from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
