Over the summer, Philadelphia 76ers head coach Nick Nurse was at the Carroll National Golf Club in Iowa, which he owns, when he received a call from free‑agent LeBron James. According to Brendan Quinn of The Athletic, James used the call to ask about offensive and defensive roles, team schemes and how he might fit in Philadelphia.

The conversation, described by Bleacher Report, appears to have helped James decide to sign a veteran‑minimum deal with the Sixers, joining Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecombe and Jaylen Brown. James is expected to serve as the team’s primary playmaker in a point‑forward capacity.
