A LATAM Airlines Perú flight bound for Piura suffered a fire around its left engine and wing just before take‑off at Lima’s Jorge Chávez International Airport on Oct. 19, 2026, Gulf News reported.
Flight LA2302 was preparing to depart when airport firefighters arrived and put out the flames. Passengers were evacuated as a precaution. The airline described the incident as an “unforeseen technical event” and said the cause was still under investigation.
A passenger told ATV that the pilot announced take‑off, the engines powered up, and then the fire started. The captain later informed those on board that the take‑off was aborted due to a problem with the left landing gear. LATAM is assisting affected travellers and arranging alternative flights, while the aircraft will undergo a technical inspection. Airport operations continued normally after the incident.
