Three health workers who treated Kenya's first Ebola patient are among the four new confirmed cases, the ministry said.

Kenya's Ministry of Health announced on Saturday that four more people have tested positive for the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola, bringing the country's confirmed cases to seven.

What happened

The ministry said three of the new patients are health workers who cared for the country's first Ebola patient, while the fourth is a relative of that first case. The relative had been in quarantine since Oct. 6. All four are in isolation and receiving care.

What the reports add

Al Jazeera reported that the three health workers were among those who treated the first patient and that the fourth case is a close relative who had been quarantined since Oct. 6. The Independent added that the first patient died on Oct. 5 after arriving from the Democratic Republic of Congo, and that about 130 contacts had been identified, with 128 in quarantine.

What was said

The Kenyan Ministry of Health said in a statement posted on X that the four new patients are in isolation and receiving care. The ministry also noted that the other two earlier patients remain in stable condition.

How it came about

The latest cases are linked to the ongoing Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Kenya recorded its first imported death on Oct. 5, when a 40‑year‑old Kenyan man who had traveled from the DRC via Uganda died, prompting contact‑tracing and quarantine measures. Earlier Felo coverage detailed those initial steps (Ebola spreads to new zone in eastern DRC as Kenya records first imported death).
