A Romanian man convicted of conspiracy to damage property by fire in a plot against Sir Keir Starmer’s former homes has been deported from the United Kingdom, the Home Office said on Friday.
Stanislav Carpiuc, 28, was sentenced earlier this year to two years in prison after a court found he had acted as a “money man” for a Russian‑speaking Telegram account called “El Money”. The account allegedly offered his accomplice, 22‑year‑old Ukrainian builder Roman Lavrynovych, £3,000 in cryptocurrency if the arson attacks were filmed and publicised.
Lavrynovych, who received a seven‑year sentence, set fire to a Toyota RAV4 once owned by Sir Keir Starmer and later ignited the front doors of two houses linked to the former prime minister in North London. One of the houses, in Kentish Town, was occupied at the time by Starmer’s sister‑in‑law, Judith Alexander, who reported hearing loud bangs and seeing an orange glow.
During the trial, Carpiuc’s barrister, Shahid Rashid, said his client’s role was to convert the promised cryptocurrency into cash and that his motivation was to help a friend whose father needed medical treatment. The Home Office spokesperson described the plot as an “abhorrent attack” and said the deportation sends a clear message to anyone lured by money from strangers.
Carpiuc was originally arrested at Luton Airport and, as a foreign national offender, was referred for deportation at the earliest opportunity. He is now subject to a re‑entry ban.
