Syria on Tuesday issued a statement condemning Jordanian air strikes on its southern territory, describing them as an "unacceptable violation and breach of Syrian airspace without any prior coordination" and saying they killed seven people, including three children and a woman.
Jordan's Government Communication Minister Mohammed al‑Momani said the strikes were a response to a deadly attack on a Greek Orthodox church funeral in Karak that killed nine people. He expressed regret over civilian casualties and said the operation was based on intelligence about "confirmed threats and planned terrorist acts against Jordan".
Syria's civil defence confirmed the recovery of seven civilian bodies in the Daraa and Sweida provinces, noting that five victims were members of a single family. Masoud al‑Salim, whose wife, son and three grandchildren were among the dead, described the destruction of his home in the border village of Al‑Tuff.
Both Amman and Damascus said they remain committed to maintaining strong bilateral ties despite the incident, with al‑Momani emphasizing ongoing cooperation against terrorism, smuggling and drug trafficking.
