GlobalData’s latest report forecasts that India will bring 13 new polyethylene plants online by 2030, representing more than 14% of the world’s expected capacity growth, according to the data‑analytics firm.

The largest addition is expected from the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Bina Polyethylene Plant (Swing) in Madhya Pradesh, slated to start operations in 2028. A second Bharat Petroleum project in Rasayani, Maharashtra, is projected to begin production in 2030. Haldia Petrochemicals plans two plants – Cuddalore Polyethylene Plant 1 and 2 – in Tamil Nadu, also targeted for 2030.

Analyst Nivedita Roy said the expansion is driven by strong demand from packaging, construction, consumer goods and automotive sectors, and aims to reduce India’s reliance on imports.
