Storm Adam floods Ibiza airport, cancels dozens of flights
Record rainfall from Storm Adam forced sections of Ibiza airport to be cordoned off and led to dozens of flight cancellations and delays across the Balearic Islands.

Storm Adam brought heavy rain to the Balearic Islands, flooding parts of Ibiza airport and prompting flight disruptions, Independent reported.
What happened
The airport recorded 173 mm of rain in 24 hours on Sunday, 18 October – the highest total since records began in 1944. Rain seeped through ceilings, forcing sections of the terminal to be cordoned off. Ibiza’s main road to the airport, closed earlier on Monday, later reopened.
What the reports add
Independent noted that Aena, Spain’s airport operator, urged passengers arriving by car to take extra precautions. The local council said island‑wide bus services continued, though with difficulties, and warned of rock‑fall danger in the north. Aemet issued orange rain alerts for Barcelona, Tarragona, Girona and Cádiz, while most of the Balearics moved to yellow alerts, with Menorca exempt.
What was said
Independent quoted Aena’s advisory that travellers should check with their airline for updates. The council’s statement, also reported by Independent, emphasized checking flight status and highlighted the ongoing orange weather alert for popular tourist destinations.
How it came about
Storm Adam’s intense downpours followed a broader pattern of severe weather across mainland Spain, where rivers burst banks and evacuations were ordered. The same weather system also affected Palma airport, which saw 33 cancellations on Sunday and further disruptions on Monday.
