Hyderabad water board urges Sangareddy residents and industries to cut usage

HMWSSB asks Sangareddy locals and large plants to slash water consumption amid possible El Niño‑linked shortages.

By Felo News Desk · Published

Anticipating water shortages linked to a potential El Niño event, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has begun a conservation drive in Sangareddy district, urging both residents and industrial users to cut water consumption.

Officials say the Singur project continues to supply adequate water, but conservation is needed to sustain supplies from the Manjeera and Singur sources through March. Households are advised to drink Manjeera water and use borewell water for other needs.

Industries in Patancheru, Jinnaram, Bollaram, Khajipalli and Sangareddy – including the Ordnance Factory, Bharat Dynamics Limited and BHEL – have been asked to reduce bulk usage by 10%. The board halted water to beer‑manufacturing units after a one‑week notice to find alternatives, and BHEL will shift from round‑the‑clock supply to daytime only.
