France summons Iranian ambassador over alleged disinformation campaign

France's foreign ministry said Iran's online posts targeting the student protests were unacceptable and summoned the Iranian ambassador.

France summoned Iran's ambassador on Wednesday, saying Tehran's online posts about the ongoing student protests constituted an "unacceptable" disinformation campaign, the French foreign ministry said.

Spokesperson Pascal Confavreux told reporters the misleading content from official Iranian foreign‑ministry accounts must stop. The move came a day after Tehran summoned French ambassador Pierre Cochard over what Iran described as France's "violent treatment" of protesters and alleged human‑rights violations.

France's foreign ministry called the Iranian summons "baseless". Rights groups such as Amnesty International have accused French authorities of using disproportionate force, including tear gas, blast balls and batons, to control crowds during the demonstrations.
