Figma launches Markdown editor and AI agent tools at India Config event
The design platform introduced Figma Specs, code layers in public beta and new AI‑agent tools during its first Config event in India.

Figma announced several new features at its Config event in India, including a Markdown‑based editor called Figma Specs, expanded AI agent capabilities and a public beta of its code‑layers tool, TechCrunch reported.
What happened
During the Config event, Figma debuted Figma Specs, a markdown editor that lets teams define design language, embed FigJam diagrams, reference canvas elements and attach design or code libraries. The specs file can exist as a standalone document or within a canvas. The company also rolled out a public beta of code layers, a feature that adds coding to designs for more interactive prototypes, previously in private beta since June.
What the reports add
TechCrunch noted that the new tools aim to give both Figma’s own agents and third‑party agents clearer design rules, helping them produce more predictable AI‑generated outcomes. The article also mentioned that Figma supports over 20 new tools through its MCP, including Open Code, Dia, Grok Bot and Indian AI startup Sarvam.
What was said
Figma’s chief design officer Loredana Crisan told TechCrunch, “We see Figma as the place where software teams come to decide what they build and ship. And so for that, I think one of the key things to keep in mind about what AI has changed and what it made available is the ability to build.” She added that code production has risen 17‑times while releases have only increased 1.3‑times, highlighting AI’s role in design discovery.
How it came about
Figma acquired the open‑source headless CMS Payload last year and is now integrating it with its Figma Make product to generate dynamic websites and manage content directly. Payload’s downloads have reportedly risen sixfold in the past year. The India office, opened late last year, serves the country’s largest market outside the United States, with the platform used by 40% of India’s top 100 BSE‑listed companies.
