EasyJet says EU hand‑luggage rules will not apply to UK departures

EasyJet has clarified that the forthcoming EU hand‑luggage changes will not affect UK outbound journeys, but will apply to flights returning from EU airports.

EasyJet has confirmed that the new EU hand‑luggage rules, which will allow passengers to carry a free personal item and a cabin bag, will not apply to travellers departing from the UK. The airline told Which? that the changes will only affect return flights from EU countries. From late 2027, all EU air passengers will be entitled to both an under‑seat bag and a cabin bag when they buy a standard ticket. EasyJet UK, not being an EU airline, will not be subject to the new rules on outbound journeys, but passengers flying back from an European airport would be subject to the new rules. The airline is reviewing its own rules in preparation for the new luggage rules, expected to come into effect in October 2027 at the earliest.
