At a Wednesday‑morning session titled “Series to Change the World” during the sixth Iberseries & Platino Industria edition in Madrid, European TV creators argued that scripted drama can influence public attitudes and spur real‑world change.

Panelists included Danish writer Jeppe Gjervig Gram, Belgian writer Cristina Poppe, Norwegian writer Jan Trygve Røyneland, French creator Louis Aubert and Spanish director Leticia Dolera. Gram praised Denmark’s public broadcaster DR for backing his finance‑focused series Follow the Money, noting it tackled “big finance” when no other show had.

Aubert, whose eco‑thriller After Us follows activists exposing corporate green‑washing, said the climate crisis “is not happening fast enough” and that storytellers must combine “a good story, a thriller that is entertaining” to change minds.

Poppe explained that her series The Best Immigrant was designed to bring the rise of far‑right politics into mainstream conversation, citing Black Mirror as an influence. She said the premise – a far‑right government expelling foreign‑born residents – now feels “uncomfortably close to reality.”

Dolera and Røyneland added that diverse European voices are seeking to champion pluralism and shift global conversations through compelling narratives.
