India's Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday instructed 14 states and Union Territories to intensify surveillance and take precautionary steps ahead of Cyclone Arnab, which the Indian Meteorological Department expects to make landfall on the Andhra Pradesh coast on Oct. 27‑28.
The advisory, sent to chief secretaries of West Bengal, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Telangana, Sikkim, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, emphasises evacuating residents from vulnerable coastal zones, suspending fishing operations and halting motorboat traffic.
Authorities are also urged to regulate road and rail traffic, keep the public indoors, avoid water‑logged areas and follow official instructions. Fisheries departments must alert fishermen and monitor marine warnings, while maritime agencies should review vessel‑tracking and search‑and‑rescue readiness.
The MHA asked states to report developments through the Integrated Control Room for Emergency Response at the listed phone numbers.
