Peacock’s eight‑episode prequel Crystal Lake arrives this week, expanding the Friday the 13th mythos beyond the infamous camp. While the series centers on Pamela Voorhees, played by Linda Cardellini, it also follows the town’s police chief Levon “Lee” Brooks and his sister Brianna, a newspaper reporter.

What happened

Levon Brooks, portrayed by William Catlett, is a recent transplant from Newark who becomes Crystal Lake’s police chief after a personal tragedy. He is a widower still coping with the loss of his wife, and his younger sister Brianna (played by Devin Kessler) frequently visits to help with meals and support. As a series of bodies begins to appear in the sleepy town, Levon reverts to his “detective mode,” pulling Brianna into the investigation.

What the reports add

According to Gizmodo, Levon’s backstory includes a “chip on his shoulder” from his time in Newark and undisclosed actions he “is not proud of.” The outlet notes that the setting is 1972, a period when “people don’t want you there.” The series also hints at a budding romance between Levon and Pamela Voorhees, adding a personal dimension to the horror narrative.

What was said

Catlett, speaking to Gizmodo in character, said: “I think Levon has a bit of a chip on his shoulder coming from Newark. He [has done] some things that he’s not proud of, and he’s looking for a new beginning in Crystal Lake… I just lost my wife two years prior, and she just lost Jason. You have this budding relationship happening, and then things start to change when bodies start to show up.”

Kessler added that her character enjoys “the Woodward and Bernstein element” of investigative journalism, noting that horror allows “us to explore, expand, and talk a lot about what’s going on in the real world.”

How it came about

The series builds on the backstory introduced in Peacock’s trailer released in September, which highlighted Cardellini’s return as Pamela Voorhees and set the tone for a gritty, practical‑gore prequel. Felo’s earlier interview with Cardellini on October 14 discussed her preparation for the role and confirmed the series premiere on October 15.
