Local resident Craig Campanella aims to install 100 basketball nets in 2026
Campanella says the project will improve safety and encourage youth play.

Craig Campanella has set a goal of installing 100 nets on community basketball hoops before the end of 2026, CBS News reported on Oct. 2.
He began the effort earlier this year, noting that many local courts lack protective nets, which can lead to broken windows and injuries. By the time of the report, Campanella had already fitted dozens of hoops and plans to continue the work through the summer.
Campanella told CBS’s Tony Dokpoupil that the project is a personal mission; he does not expect municipal funding and is relying on donations and volunteer help. He hopes the added safety will encourage more kids to play and reduce property damage.
