Cowboys trust new defensive coordinator Christian Parker despite early struggles

Fox Sports insider Jay Glazer says players back Parker’s scheme, contrasting it with last season’s lack of trust in Matt Eberflus.

Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Christian Parker is still trusted by the team, Fox Sports NFL insider Jay Glazer told Fox NFL Sunday. Glazer said players “believe” in Parker’s scheme and expect it to “mesh and jell” as the season progresses, unlike the previous year’s defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus, whose scheme was reportedly unpopular.

Through the first five games of the 2026 season, Dallas ranks 31st in total defense and 26th in scoring defense, allowing 27.2 points per game. After three straight games conceding 30 or more points, the Cowboys limited the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to 24 points on Thursday but still lost 24‑16, falling to 2‑3.

Parker, 34, is in his second year after serving as the Philadelphia Eagles’ passing‑game coordinator and defensive backs coach in 2024‑2025, helping the Eagles win a 2024 Super Bowl. The Cowboys recently added cornerback Joey Porter Jr. in a trade with Pittsburgh, hoping Parker can replicate his success with the new talent.
