Connor McDavid has amassed 17 points in the Oilers' first six games of the 2026‑27 NHL season, according to Daily Hive. The 29‑year‑old captain leads the league in points (17), assists (13), primary assists (10), on‑zone possession time (10:08), slot‑pass completions (33), successful open‑ice dekes (33) and slot‑driving plays (69). The tally marks the best start for Edmonton since the 1984‑85 team posted a 5‑0‑1 record.

Despite injuries to top‑six forwards Zach Hyman, Ryan Nugent‑Hopkins and Matt Savoie, McDavid’s production outpaces that of teammates Evan Bouchard, Leon Draisaitl and Vasily Podkolzin. His current pace of about 2.8 points per game would extrapolate to roughly 238 points over an 84‑game schedule, which would eclipse Wayne Gretzky’s single‑season record of 215 set in 1985‑86. Daily Hive notes that such a pace is unlikely to hold for an entire season, but even a reduced rate of two points per game would still yield around 173 points.

Historically, McDavid has averaged 1.5 points per game across 800 career games, with higher averages of 1.8 in 2022‑23 and 1.9 in 2020‑21. If he regresses to his career average, he would finish with about 134 points; at his 2022‑23 rate he could finish between 157 and 165 points, both potential career highs.
