Daniel Webber, Dermot Mulroney and Katheryn Winnick have been cast in the psychological horror‑thriller “Compound 9,” which is currently shooting in Miami, Variety reported.
Rodrigo H. Vila directs the film, which draws inspiration from William Peter Blatty’s 1980 cult classic “The Ninth Configuration.” The screenplay was written by Vila, Andy Weiss and Ari Schlossberg.
Set in the aftermath of the Vietnam War, the story follows a group of Marine veterans with severe psychological trauma confined inside a remote government facility. Webber plays military psychiatrist Dr. Mark Connors, Mulroney portrays Col. Dr. Morton Phillips, the austere psychiatrist running the experimental program, and Winnick appears as Riley, a guarded nurse with a troubled past.
Vila said adapting Blatty’s work involved “engaging with his ideas and then pushing them somewhere new,” adding that the film takes viewers “a hundred and fifty meters underground” and constantly subverts expectations. Webber called the role “an exciting challenge” and praised the director’s vision.
“Compound 9” is produced by Lía Rodríguez and Pilar de Posadas through Unfold.
