Checkers, part of the Shoprite Group, opened a new Checkers FX store, a Uniq Clothing by Checkers outlet and a Petshop Science shop at Eastway Midstream Estate in Centurion on 2 October 2026. The launch creates 72 jobs and introduces the retailer’s Xpress Trolley smart shopping carts, the first such system in Gauteng.
What happened
The Midstream store, managed by Bongani Chabalala, offers a full grocery range, a Meat Market, deli, bakery, fresh produce, a sushi and smoothie bar, Krispy Kreme doughnuts and a Money Market counter. In the coming weeks the store will roll out Xpress Trolley carts that let shoppers scan items, track spending and pay directly from the trolley, eliminating a traditional checkout.
What was said
Chabalala said, “Our team is looking forward to welcoming shoppers and delivering the customer‑first service and world‑class shopping experience they have come to expect from Checkers,” as reported by Bizcommunity.
