Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, carried out an aerial survey of flood‑hit northern districts on Monday, according to the state’s Chief Minister’s Office.
The survey covered East Champaran, Gopalganj, Vaishali and Saran, where officials inspected water levels, discharge from barrages, embankment conditions and night patrolling. A meeting with officials—including BJP MP Radha Mohan Singh, Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit, Gopalganj District Magistrate Saurav Samir and SP Vinay Tiwari—reviewed the situation and ordered the start of relief camps and community kitchens.
Nepal released a record 6.52 lakh cusecs of water from its Devghat gauge, raising the Gandak River’s flow. The Gandak recorded a peak discharge of 543,500 cusecs at the Valmikinagar barrage in West Champaran at 5:00 a.m. on Monday, after which the flow began to fall.
District officials were directed to coordinate with State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams and to maintain continuous monitoring of vulnerable low‑lying areas.
