The Associated Press released its Week 9 Top 25 college football poll on Oct. 25, noting several notable moves. BYU dropped from No. 2 to No. 8 after a 39‑31 overtime loss to UCF, while Texas rose eight spots to No. 11 following a 34‑27 win over Ole Miss despite squandering a 21‑point lead.

What happened

UCF defeated BYU 39‑31 in overtime, causing the Cougars to fall to eighth in the poll. Texas beat Ole Miss 34‑27, erasing a large second‑half lead but still improving its ranking. Texas Tech slipped to 13th after a 37‑24 defeat by Cincinnati. USC was upset by unranked Wisconsin, scoring only seven points and 241 yards.

What the report adds

The poll shows Utah as the only Big 12 team with a perfect conference record, while BYU, Arizona, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State are tied at 3‑1. The article also mentions that BYU’s recent 28‑24 win over Notre Dame and its upcoming game against Utah on Nov. 7 could influence the College Football Playoff committee.

What was said

Bleacher Report noted that “Arch Manning provided another clunker,” completing 18‑of‑30 for 212 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions, and that wide receiver Cam Coleman was limited to a single catch.

How it came about

These rankings follow a week of upsets highlighted in Felo’s earlier coverage of Week 8, where BYU and Texas Tech each suffered their first loss, and Miami’s surge reshaped the top‑25.
