ANZ terminates KPMG audit contract after nearly 60 years
The bank will tender a new audit contract by April 2027 and appoint a new auditor for the 2029 financial year.

ANZ announced on 2 October 2026 that it is ending its audit relationship with KPMG, a partnership that started in 1969. The decision follows a whistleblower scandal that alleged senior KPMG partners misused confidential information to win work, a claim brought to public attention by Senator Deborah O’Neill earlier this year.
A bank spokesman said the move reflects the length of the existing relationship and did not reference the scandal. ANZ will open the audit contract to tender by the end of April 2027, with a new auditor expected to be in place for the 2029 financial year. KPMG has been barred from participating in the tender.
