In a game that turned into a milestone celebration, Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese recorded her 500th rebound of the season against the Chicago Sky on Saturday, becoming the first player in WNBA history to reach that mark in a single campaign. The achievement came in the first half of the contest, cementing Reese’s status as the league’s dominant rebounder.
Reaching a Historic Milestone
Reese’s 500th rebound was a culmination of a season that already saw her set the WNBA’s single‑season rebounding record. She achieved that record during Atlanta’s 78‑71 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks on August 24, a performance that showcased her relentless pursuit of the ball. The 24‑year‑old has been praised for her “anything that goes up is mine” mentality, a mindset she shared in an interview with USA Today on the same date. Her focus on consistency and effort has propelled her to the forefront of the league’s frontcourt.
Statistical Dominance Throughout the Season
Heading into Saturday’s game, Reese averaged a career‑high 16.5 points per contest while leading the league with 12.4 rebounds per game across 40 appearances. Her averages also included 2.8 assists, 1.8 steals and 0.7 blocks per game, underscoring her all‑around contribution on both ends of the floor. The Dream’s 27‑14 record places them fourth in the WNBA standings, and the team’s net rating climbs to +10.2 when Reese is on the court versus a modest +0.2 when she is off. These numbers illustrate the tangible impact she has on the team’s performance.
Beyond Rebounds: Double‑Double Record
Reese’s historic season is not limited to rebounding. On August 30, she set the WNBA single‑season record for double‑doubles, recording 29 such games. This achievement further highlights her versatility and consistency, as she regularly contributes double‑digit numbers in both points and rebounds. The Dream’s playoff push is bolstered by her presence, with her leadership and skill set proving essential in close contests.
Looking Ahead: Playoff Aspirations
As the Dream edge closer to the postseason, Reese’s performance remains a cornerstone of their strategy. The team’s strong record and her statistical output suggest that she will play a pivotal role in the playoffs. While the exact playoff matchups are still uncertain, the Dream’s confidence in Reese’s ability to dominate the glass and score efficiently is evident. The 2026 season has already been memorable for Reese, and the final stretch promises even more excitement for her fans and the league alike.
