American Hospital Dubai announced it has secured the da Vinci 5 robotic surgical system from Intuitive, the maker of the company’s flagship surgical robots. The deal was signed with Al Naghi Medical, a UAE‑based medical device supplier, and will make the system the first of its kind to operate in the GCC region.
According to the hospital’s group chief executive, Sherif Beshara, the acquisition is part of a strategy to keep the facility at the forefront of robotic‑assisted care. He said the new platform, which offers more than 150 upgrades over earlier models, will allow surgeons to perform increasingly complex procedures with greater precision and safety.
Al Naghi’s Mona Qaisi welcomed the partnership, noting that it reflects a shared mission to advance robotic surgery in the Middle East and to support institutions setting new standards in surgical care.
The da Vinci 5 introduces several firsts for the region, including force‑feedback technology that lets surgeons feel the pressure applied to tissue, higher‑resolution 3D imaging, and a more ergonomic console. The system also boasts 10,000 times more computing power than earlier models.
American Hospital Dubai already operates the da Vinci Xi and the single‑port da Vinci SP, the first of its kind in the Middle East. The new addition will broaden the hospital’s capabilities across a wider range of specialties and enhance its training programmes.
