Alexander Skarsgård says he avoids reading online comments about himself
The 50‑year‑old star says reading both praise and criticism online offers no benefit.

Swedish actor Alexander Skarsgård told The Times that he deliberately stays away from reading public reviews or social‑media commentary about himself, saying it does not benefit him.
What he said
Skarsgård explained, “I don’t think it benefits me in any way to hear or read people’s reactions. Many years ago I made a decision to stay away from all kinds of online media comments about myself. I don’t google myself, I don’t read reviews.” He added that focusing on a single negative comment can dominate one’s perception, while even positive remarks may lead to over‑thinking.
Current projects
The actor, best known for his role as Perry Wright in Big Little Lies and Lukas Matsson in Succession, is starring in the fantasy film Wicker alongside Olivia Colman, playing a magical man made of woven willow. He described the script as “original”, “warm”, “humorous” and “extraordinary”. Skarsgård called working with Oscar‑winner Colman “one of the most rewarding collaborations I’ve ever had”.
Views on Hollywood age dynamics
Reflecting on gendered age expectations, Skarsgård said, “For years, for women, it was that if you were no longer the young, sexy starlet, you played the grandma — and the movie never revolved around the grandma. Stories usually revolved around a man who could be 50, 60, 70. The love interest was always younger. Thankfully, it is slowly starting to change, but we’ve got a long way to go.”
