On 27 September, Sukhdeo Bhagat, the newly appointed All India Congress Committee in‑charge for Chhattisgarh, accused the state’s BJP government of failing to protect tribal rights, create employment and maintain law and order in mining‑affected areas. Bhagat alleged that forests were being cleared for mining projects in places such as Hasdeo Aranya and that Gram Sabha consent was being ignored. He also criticised the utilisation of District Mineral Foundation funds, the implementation of the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act and the Forest Rights Act, and demanded public disclosure of pending and rejected forest‑rights claims. Bhagat highlighted unemployment concerns, noting that recruitments were stalled, examinations postponed and young people were uncertain about job opportunities. He cited the latest Periodic Labour Force Survey, which reported a 6.1% unemployment rate among 15‑29‑year‑olds in 2025.
